President Trump delivered the former first lady a present for her birthday that she did not want but had school children screaming with joy.
The Trump administration has announced that it is going to cutting back the ridiculous requirements of Michelle Obama’s horrible school lunch nutrition plan. The rule changes will give schools the ability to change the servings and is “intended to help state and local program operators overcome challenges and deliver great meals more efficiently.”
The announcement was a blow to one of Michelle Obama’s key achievements under the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act as she celebrated her birthday on Friday. The law was signed in 2010 and it set standards for fruit, vegetables and whole-grain servings.
Not only did school have challenges affording the food for the new requirements children hated it.
Michelle Obama’s policy was so bad that 1 million students stopped buying school lunch. The Government Accountability Office audited Obama’s program and found that states were drowning in the new regulation initiated by the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act.
Kids were boycotting food and throwing out their lunches which annoyed school officials because it cost more to supply them.
The Washington Times reported:
The National School Lunch Program saw a sharp decline in participation once the healthy standards went into effect during the 2012-2013 school year. A total of 1,086,000 students stopped buying school lunch, after participation had increased steadily for nearly a decade.
The report found that 321 districts left the National School Lunch Program altogether, many of which cited the new standards as a factor.
The decline was “influenced by changes made to comply with the new lunch content and nutrition standards,” state and local officials said.
The standards forced some schools to stop serving peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and led middle school and high school students to opt for vending machines or buying food off campus to avoid the lunch line.
I’m glad President Trump was able to give Michelle Obama this great birthday gift and I’m sure school kids are just as happy.
