CNN ‘Disinformation Specialist’ Get’s Roasted After Flipping Out Over Website

CNN’s “disinformation specialist” does not have an ounce of a sense of humor and he really doesn’t like it when he is the butt of a joke. Donie O’Sullivan was furious over the fact that the conservative satirical site poked fun of him and his buddies in the media.

Last week, the Babylon Bee got some great laughs with an article they posted making fun of the Democrats and the media’s reaction to the US airstrike that eliminated Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, the headline read, “Democrats Call For Flags To Be Flown At Half-Mast to Grieve Death of Soleimani.”

Sullivan was concerned that conservatives actually think the site is a “legit” news site; if you’ve spent 30 seconds on Babylon Bee’s site you know it’s not real and it’s even posted on their Facebook page. So what is he so concerned about? Well, the Bee gets more reactions than his buddies at the New York Times and his own network CNN.

“To put this in perspective, this is the same number of engagements the top NY Times and CNN stories on Facebook had over the past week,” O’Sullivan wrote. “A lot of people sharing this ‘satirical’ story on Facebook don’t know it is satire.”

“Having a disclaimer buried somewhere on your site that says it’s ‘satire’ seems like a good way to get around a lot of the changes Facebook has made to reduce the spread of clickbait and misinformation,” O’Sullivan said.

In response, Sullivan got roasted by the founder of the Bee and others over the fact that he has no sense of humor and mocked him for having a “public meltdown.”

The founder of the Babylon Bee weighed in and said, “A CNN reporter is taking shots at the Bee because our articles get shared a lot and some people think they’re real (which will always happen with satire). After thinking ‘how adorable,’ I thought, ‘well surely this guy has chirped at the Onion for the same thing…” Babylon Bee founder Adam Ford responded. “There are websites dedicated to chronicling reactions from people who think Onion stories are real. Foreign leaders have famously been fooled by Onion articles. And this guy’s bio says he ‘covers disinformation’ for CNN. Surely he has taken the Onion to task as well, yes?”

As it turns out O’Sullivan CNN’s “disinformation export” has heard of the satire site “The Onion” and is a fan. Adam Ford searched his feed and found that Sullivan has posted articles from The Onion laughing about them. Ford also posted the screenshots you can see them below.

Conservative commentators pounced…

“Why is a CNN reporter having a public meltdown over a satire site,” Washington Examiner Executive Editor Seth Mandel asked.

Steven Miller’s comment was my favorite…

“You guys should definitely keep focusing your energy on Babylon Bee and people sharing a joke article is in no way a reflection of the garbage state of your profession,” conservative commentator Stephen Miller wrote.
